Hollywood’s biggest stars are gearing up for the 2023 Golden Globes, as awards season finally kicks into full swing.

The TV and film ceremony, which is the main precursor to the Oscars, is being broadcast for the first time since 2021, following a boycott last year.

Here is everything you need to know about this year’s event.

When are the 2023 Golden Globes?

The 2023 Golden Globes will kick off at 1am GMT on 11 January. Comedian Jerrod Carmichael will host the ceremony live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

UK viewers can watch the event via NBC’s streaming service Peacock, which is available through Sky and NOW.

Last year’s ceremony was held behind closed doors after its organising body, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), faced heavy criticism over diversity issues.

Due to the controversy, NBC refused to broadcast the awards show. But it agreed to show this year’s Golden Globes after the HFPA vowed make greater efforts to diversify its voting pool.

Who is nominated?

Martin McDonagh’s dark comedy The Banshees of Inisherin leads this year’s nominations with eight.

The multiverse-themed Everything Everywhere All At Once has six nods, while the epic period drama Babylon and Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans both have five.

Several British actors are nominated for top awards, including Daniel Craig (Glass Onion), Dame Emma Thompson (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) and Olivia Colman (Empire of Light).

The other homegrown stars up for gongs are Bill Nighy (Living), Lesley Manville (Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris), Carey Mulligan (She Said), Eddie Redmayne (The Good Nurse) and Ralph Fiennes (The Menu).

Brendan Fraser is hotly tipped to win for his role in psychological drama The Whale, which marks his long-awaited Hollywood comeback.

However, he will boycott the ceremony after alleging he was sexually assaulted by ex-HFPA president Philip Berk in 2003. Berk has denied any wrongdoing.

Taylor Swift will take on fellow pop stars Rihanna and Lady Gaga after being nominated in the category for best original song.

Comedy legend Eddie Murphy and Glee creator Ryan Murphy will both receive honorary awards.

Who will present the awards?

Awards will be presented by stars including Quentin Tarantino, Jamie Lee Curtis, Natasha Lyonne and Tracy Morgan.

Ana De Armas, who is nominated for her performance as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, is also part of the presenting line-up.

Other presenters include Euphoria actor Colman Domingo, former Saturday Night Live comedian Ana Gasteyer, and Pose stars Michaela Jae Rodriguez and Billy Porter.
